Located along the Bergen Railway (from Oslo - Bergen) and RV7, Geilo is the perfect destination both summer and winter. Here you are close to two national parks; Hallingskarvet and Hardangervidda National Park. The town of Geilo itself is very small and has only 2300 inhabitants.
Geilo offers a wide range of activities, a choice of hotels, shopping, restaurants, cosy cafés and several local food producers.
Geilo was one of the first ski resorts in Norway, which therefore put Geilo on the map for ski enthusiasts. With the high mountains and forest, the opportunities for alpine skiing and cross-country skiing are perfect. Geilo has more than 500 km of cross-country tracks and 39 different trails. Geilo is also perfect for beginners who want to experience the fun of alpine skiing.
In summer and autumn, Geilo is known for its hiking and mountain biking opportunities. There are also other exciting activities such as white water rafting, downhill cycling, fishing and horse riding. The hiking season begins in late June and lasts until the snow falls, which is usually in October.
