Utzon Center in Aalborg is an experimental culture and knowledge center, designed and named after the famous architect Jørn Utzon, who is known for the Opera House in Sydney. Discover the 5500 m² of beautiful Japanese gardens in Broby, northwest of Faaborg. The stunning gardens are laid out in true Japanese tradition, with as many as 6 different styles spread across the area. Feel the tranquility as you walk among idyllic small lakes and streams, and enjoy this garden architectural gem. The Japanese Gardens also has a cosy café, which offers sushi and Japanese-inspired meatballs, among other things.

On the northern coast of Lolland at Kragenæs, an exciting artistic project is under construction. Sculptor Thomas Kadziola and composer Gunner Møller Pedersen will create a magnificent monument, consisting of 12 large stone figures of granite, which standing in a circle, daily electroacoustic music and song will flow out. This through a hidden loudspeaker system built into the huge stone figures. When this interesting monument is completed, you will have a very special experience when you stand in the middle of the circle. Work is still in progress, but some of the figures have already been set up and are already attracting many interested people.

Take a trip to Gedser Odde, which is not only Denmark's, but Scandinavia's southernmost point. On a clear day, you can look across to Germany on the other side of the Baltic Sea. In the area you will also find the "Sydstenen", the Gedser Naval Station, Gedser Lighthouse and Gedser Bird Station.

Take a fantastic trip to Møns Klint; one of Denmark's most beautiful places. Møns Klint consists of chalk deposits dating back to the end of the Cretaceous period, about 75 million years ago. Go all the way to the westernmost tip of Zealand and see Røsnæs Lighthouse in Kalundborg. The lighthouse dates from between 1844 and 1846 and is located in an area where there used to be a defensive battery. In this context, Røsnæs Fyr houses an exciting exhibition where visitors on their way up to the top of the lighthouse are told stories about the various wars it has been involved in.

Go on holiday by car and drive to Houvig Fortress, 3.8 km north of Søndervig, which is one of the most important German fortifications in Denmark from World War II. It consists of 50 bunkers and about 50 other concrete structures, which served as part of the Germans' Atlantic fortification with cannons, anti-aircraft guns and machine gun bunkers. For those interested in history and war, a cheap mini break in West Jutland is a must.

Mønsted Kalkgruber is located at Mønsted, south of Hjarbæk Fjord and west of Viborg. The limestone pits are caves in a limestone layer close to the surface, where lime has been quarried for many centuries, for example to produce mortar for building churches and monasteries. Mønsted Limestone Mines is the world's largest limestone mine and an endless labyrinth of mine galleries. Try the mine train in summer or see how many bats you can spot.

Enjoy the view from the 21 meter high lighthouse built in Bornholm's granite in 1872. The lighthouse has not been active since 1990, but it is still a magnificent piece of architecture and offers a fantastic view.

Hammershus is one of Bornholm's great landmarks. The old castle ruin is believed to have been built by the church authorities in collaboration with Valdemar Sejr, back in the early 1200s. Hammershus is Northern Europe's largest castle ruin and is majestically situated on a 74-metre high, steep rocky outcrop. A family holiday on Bornholm with a visit to Hammershus is an experience you'll never forget.

Jon's Chapel is a rock cave, also known as a "dry kiln", formed as a result of the waves repeatedly hitting the rock. Jon was sent to the island to spread Christianity. He lived in this cave where curious Bornholmers came down to visit him. He told stories from the Bible and soon the crowds were so large that space in the cave became cramped. So he stood on the rock and continued preaching from there so that everyone could hear him. Later, a pulpit was carved on top of the rock where, according to the story, Jon had stood.

In the middle of Bornholm stands the Rytterknægten, sticking up out of the surrounding forest. The 162-metre tower is the highest point on the island and was built in 1856 to commemorate the visit of Frederik VII and Countess Danner a few years earlier. It was later raised to its present height as the forest began to grow over the tower's head.

Enjoy the lovely harbour in Denmark's sunniest town, Svaneke. The harbour, which celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2016, offers a wonderful bathing area with a jetty and the remains of the "Barken Svanen" - a wooden ship built over 150 years ago, less than 100 metres away. There are several cosy cafés and eateries close to the quay where you can enjoy life and the lovely atmosphere that surrounds Svaneke Harbour.

See the spectacular water tower in Svaneke, designed by the world-famous Danish architect, Jørn Utzon. The three-legged water tower is cast in reinforced concrete, built in 1952 and listed in 1990. The design of the water tower is inspired by the old navigational marks used by ships. In 2004, Svaneke Water Tower was featured on the reverse of the fifth tower coin, a series of 10 special 20-krona coins issued by Danmarks Nationalbank.
