Sweden
Sweden is a great place to travel, from the beautiful nature of Småland and Skåne, to city breaks in Malmö, Gothenburg or Stockholm, to family holidays near Astrid Lindgren's home town of Vimmerby. At Risskov we offer city breaks, nature holidays, winter holidays or a romantic wellness break for two in Sweden.
Götaland is the southernmost part of Sweden, with Kattegat and Zealand to the west and the Baltic Sea to the east. Southern Sweden offers many exciting experiences. Discover the old Swedish towns with the idyllic Swedish red wooden houses. If you have the children with you on your self-drive holiday, a visit to Astrid Lindgren's World in Vimmerby, where the story of Pippi Longstocking takes place, is definitely worthwhile. Discover the beautiful Småland region with its varied landscapes, large beautiful forests, mountains and tranquil lakes, where it is possible to catch a glimpse of Sweden's wild animals such as moose, wolves and beavers. Also visit Götaland's major cities such as Malmö, Halmstad and Kalmar, which offer cultural experiences and great shopping opportunities.
In central Sweden you'll find everything from cosy hotels in the beautiful countryside, active hotels on the mountain tops and big city hotels in the middle of the capital Stockholm. Stockholm, also known as the Venice of the North, is covered by water for a third of its area, so maritime life is an important aspect of the city, and there are many bridges and locks. You can take a trip on one of the many boats that sail around the Stockholm archipelago with its thousands of islands and reefs. Stockholm also has many interesting museums and in the old part of the city, Gamla Stan, you will find the Royal Palace with the Crown Jewels, the Royal Armoury, the Tre Kronor Museum and the 13th century cathedral. In the countryside throughout Central Sweden you can experience the great Swedish forests, where you may be lucky enough to encounter Sweden's wildlife. Try your hand at canoeing on one of the many amazing lakes, where you might be lucky enough to spot wild beavers. Or go hiking in the beautiful Swedish mountains and experience, for example, a wonderful sunrise over the vast Swedish wilderness.
You can also go on an active holiday in the Swedish mountains, stretching from Dalarna to Treriksröset. The beautiful landscape is perfect for skiing in winter and hiking in summer. The Swedish mountains are ideal for families with children, as you'll find trails of all levels of difficulty. Although outdoor activities are the first thing that comes to mind when you think of mountains, the area also offers many cultural attractions. The Dalarna region is famous for its red horses, the Dala horse. There is also a fantastic and unique open-air scene, Dalhalla, carved out of the rocks of a disused quarry, and you will also find Sweden's sixth largest lake, Siljan.
Visit historic Lund, the beautiful surroundings of Ystad or the amusement park Liseberg in Gothenburg. Discover Sweden's nature everywhere. Explore the archipelago along the Swedish west coast and Bohuslän. Here you can enjoy your holiday by the water among small islands and fishing villages. Or visit one of Sweden's national parks, where you can enjoy nature on beautiful hikes. Visit the vast forests of Värmland or the beaches along the Swedish south coast. Whether you're looking for a weekend break, a mini break or a summer holiday, Sweden has it all. When you go on a self-drive holiday, you plan the holiday yourself, whether it's a family with children in southern Sweden, a girly shopping trip in Malmö or an active holiday at Isaberg. Holidays all year round can go to Sweden.
