The oldest Central European armoury is part of the Museum of Western Bohemia. Plzen is also home to the third largest synagogue in the world. It was built in the 19th century in the Neo-Romanesque style with oriental touches.

As a small district in the middle of the old town of Stare Mesto, lies the old Jewish quarter, Josefov. This small district is completely surrounded by Stare Mesto and houses a number of Jewish synagogues, a Jewish cemetery and not least the Jewish Museum in Prague, where the sad history of the Jews under Nazism is depicted. Among the seven synagogues in the area, one of the most popular is the Spanish Synagogue, which has an exhibition on Jewish life in the Czech Republic from the liberation to the present day. In southern Stare Mesto you'll also find a museum dedicated to the Jewish writer Franz Kafka, born in Prague in 1883.

Stare Mesto is Prague's Old Town, situated on one of the Vltava River's many bends with the Mala Strana district on the opposite side. It is believed that settlements in this area date back to the 9th century. This beautiful old district offers a variety of exciting experiences, not least in the form of the huge Old Town Square, also known as the Old Town Square. As you wander through the charming district, between spontaneous cultural displays and small street vendors, you will also find the National Library and the old Gothic Powder Tower, among other things.

The Old Town Square (or Old Town Square) is a 9,000 m² square in Stare Mesto (Prague's Old Town). Already back in the 11th century, the square was used as a trading hub and was known throughout much of Europe. Today, the square also hosts regular markets and is always bustling with restaurants, cafes, shops and bars everywhere. One of the square's most remarkable facets is the beautiful Gothic Týn Church and the large astronomical clock from 1410.

The clock is particularly interesting when the bell strikes full, as it is at this time that a small hole in the clock is opened and Jesus Christ comes out before his disciples. Next to it, death rings with a bell.

The 216-metre TV tower in Prague is the city's landmark for better or worse. The structure has been the subject of a fair amount of criticism over the years, and was even once voted one of the city's ugliest buildings. Don't let that stop you though, as the story behind the tower is quite intriguing and the view from here is one of the best you'll get in the city.

Petřín Hill is a short distance from Prague Castle and is a large park area, ideal for a walk. The hill is the highest in the city at 327 metres and can be reached by cable car. At the top is a small Eiffel Tower-like observation tower from which you can enjoy views of the city and river. The whole area is a great haven of green nature, romantic moments and fun activities for the kids.

Theresienstadt is located about 60 km north of Prague city centre and is an old German concentration camp. However, the origins of Theresienstadt date back to the late 1700s, when the Austrian Emperor Joseph II built a fort with a garrison town on either side of the Eger River and named it after his mother, the Austrian Empress Maria Theresia. During World War I, the fort was used as a prison camp for prisoners of war, and during World War II, it was used as a fortress. The Gestapo took over the fort and set up a prison. Between 1940 and 1945, the fort and the rest of the area around Theresienstadt were used as a concentration camp for more than 150,000 Jews. Among them was Sigmund Freud's sister, who died in the camp in 1942. A visit to Theresienstadt is a very special experience.

One of Central Europe's most important religious buildings is St Vitus Cathedral. It contains religious images, burial chambers and the Czech crown jewels are kept there. The original cathedral dates back to 925. The actual building of the great cathedral was only completed in 1929, and has been under construction throughout the previous millennium. The reason is the many wars and fires that have ravaged the structure.

The cathedral is also known for its mosaic at the southern entrance, the Day of Judgement. This is made of a million pieces of stone and glass! Walk up the 287 steps to the top of the cathedral's main tower for a great view of the city.

The oldest golf course in the Czech Republic, which has18 holes. At first impression, the course looks relatively simple, but once you get started, golfers often find that the course requires more accuracy and technique than first thought. The greens of the course are relatively small and protected by bunkers.

Also known as the Emperor's Forest, the forest is located between the three cities of Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázné and Františkovy Lázně. The three cities are also known as the Spa Triangle, as all of them are famous for their spa holidays. The forest also serves as a nature reserve and has several good trails.
