Slovenia destination image

A car holiday to Slovenia is a dream holiday for the whole family. At Risskov we offer a wide range of exciting experiences. The country offers contrasting alpine landscapes, sunny and child-friendly sandy beaches, rolling vineyards and impressive mountain caves. Visit one of the country's many castles or drop by the medieval town of Piran, surrounded by the Adriatic Sea. A family holiday is a must, but so is a romantic spa break for two or a getaway with your girlfriends.

Go on a self-drive summer holiday to the coast of Slovenia, located in the south-west of the country and bordering Italy and Croatia. Here you can enjoy a beach holiday on the Adriatic and visit charming coastal towns offering cultural and historical experiences. You can visit the town of Piran, full of beautiful buildings and in close contact with nature and the Mediterranean. Here you will have the feeling of stepping directly into a postcard. The town has beautiful galleries, shops and charming cafés and you can have lunch right on the water in the town's harbour area. You can also visit the vibrant coastal town of Koper. Discover the remains of the once mighty city wall, the historical monuments and also the largest cathedral in Slovenia, which stands centrally in the city. If you want to experience an amazing natural phenomenon, head to the caves of Skocjan, some of the most famous underground caves in the world. Here you will find the largest and deepest underground canyon in the world.

You can also go on a wonderful family holiday in the eastern part of Slovenia. For example, go on a summer holiday to Čatež ob Savi, a town located on the Sava River. Catez offers many activities and is located in beautiful surroundings. The village is particularly famous for the well-visited Therme Catez, which is fantastic with its huge range of water and spa facilities. Not far from Catez you will also find the town of Brezice, known for its many castles. Take a cultural walk through the town, cross the 527-metre iron bridge over the Sava and Krka rivers and see the proud water tower in the centre of town. At Brezice Castle you can visit the Cultural History Museum with exhibits on the archaeological and ethnographic history of the area as well as a collection of modern history. The town is also surrounded by rolling vineyards and there are good opportunities to taste the region's tasty wines.

You can also take a trip to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The city is located at the mouth of the Ljubljanica River on the Sava River in central Slovenia, between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. The city has 280,310 inhabitants and offers many interesting sights. Here you can visit Ljubljana Castle, a castle complex standing on a hilltop above the city centre. Originally built as a medieval fortress in the 11th century, noblemen have lived in the castle over the years, but today it is a cultural and historical site only. You can also see the beautiful Dragon Bridge from 1900, which crosses the river and is known for its many dragon statues. It is also possible to see the capital from a different angle, as you can hire kayaks or paddle boards and view the city from the river.

Slovenia is lovely all year round and you can enjoy a summer holiday with the whole family by the coast, or go on a walking holiday in the beautiful countryside, you can also visit the capital Ljubljana and explore the exciting city. Slovenia offers many experiences and is a great destination for your self-drive holiday.
