Both ferries and buses are public transport, which makes it easy to cross over to the islands and enjoy the beautiful nature on the islands.

This ship is the world's largest active wooden ship. The ship is a replica of the East India Farer, which sank just outside the entrance to Gothenburg on its return from China in 1745. Although a replica, it has been to India and on several expeditions around Europe.

In 2010, the ship took part in the festivities surrounding Crown Princess Victoria's wedding.

When you're on a mini break in southern Sweden, stop by the cosy town of Simrishamn, where you can take a stroll through the old town and see the colourful little houses. A number of them contain galleries and arts and crafts. Unlike the houses in Kivik and Skillinge, the houses here are fishermen's houses, not officers' houses. The idyllic cobbled streets have become incredibly popular summer destinations and the town comes alive at this time of year.

Visit the well-preserved medieval castle of Glimminge Hus, which was begun in 1499, when Skåne was still Danish. The exact date is written on a tablet in Valby church! During the Scanian War the castle was almost blown up, but a Danish fleet just managed to save it.

Go ghost hunting or try to do different things as they did in the Middle Ages. The castle is surrounded by a moat and there's plenty of space on the grass for a picnic and some play.

The area is surrounded by beautiful fields, which in spring light up with their yellow rapeseed flowers.

The Stenshuvud nature reserve is a hill that slopes down into the sea. Walk the beautiful path up to the highest point for breathtaking views of the countryside and small towns - remember good walking shoes. The reserve, now fully protected, is particularly beautiful in spring when the fields are covered in yellow and white carpets of flowers. Many rare animal species in Sweden live in the nature reserve, including the tree frog.

Already in Carl von Linné's time, Stenshuvud was referred to as a landmark for seafarers.

The sandy beach of Knäbäckshusen is lovely in summer, but be careful not to swim too far out, as the water here is full of strong currents.

In the centre of Malmö you will find Malmö Museums and Malmöhus Castle. The castle, which houses the Malmö Museums, is one of the oldest preserved Renaissance castles in Norway and houses many exhibitions about the city's history, technology, seafaring and nature. It also houses the Malmö Art Museum, the Commandant's House and the Castle Mill. At Malmøhus, guided historical tours are given, which tell about the past inhabitants of the castles and halls. Listen to the wings of history at Rosersberg Castle. Here you can enjoy a magnificent experience in rural surroundings, with vast green spaces and the glistening waters of Lake Malaren as a backdrop. It's really worth taking the time to visit Gamla Uppsala, one of Scandinavia's strangest archaeological sites. Take a look at one of the three majestic royal burial mounds - Uppsala Högar - from the 500s, or at one of the largest burial grounds in Scandinavia and the remains of the cathedral, which was built in the 12th century.

The place is mythical and has become famous abroad in recent years because of the TV series "Vikings". Take the opportunity to learn more about how it all happened back then.

You can also visit Gamla Uppsala museum, Odinsborg restaurant and Disagården open-air museum, which is located here.

In Steninge, outside Märsta, you will find Steninge Castle. The building dates back to 18th century and the castle park is open to the public. You can also visit Steningeladen nearby and look at local handicrafts or you can grab a bite to eat and a cup of coffee.

You should take the time to visit Sigtuna. The town can trace its origins back to the 900s, and is considered to be Sweden's oldest town. The streets and houses are steeped in history and you can visit Sigtuna Museum to learn even more. There are plenty of small local shops selling everything from clothes to furniture and yarn.

In summer, you can stroll along the promenade and buy an ice cream cone at the harbour. In winter, marvel at the charming medieval building of Café Tant Brun while you warm up with a cup of hot chocolate or coffee.
