Croatia
Sun and beach are usually among the main themes when choosing a summer holiday in Croatia. A real beach holiday on the Adriatic brings joy to the whole family. At Risskov we have hotels at several of Croatia's popular areas such as Istria and the Bay of Kvarner. Whether it's a holiday with children or a relaxing mini break for two, Croatia is the ideal holiday destination. Visit the beautiful seaside town of Opatija with its azure sea and child-friendly sandy beaches or explore the ancient city of Pula.
Go on a self-drive holiday to the beautiful peninsula of Istria in north-western Croatia and spend a summer holiday in the charm of Istria and be inspired by the amazing nature, the exciting towns or the beautiful rocky coast of the Kvarner Bay. The Adriatic coast is a popular beach holiday destination, but is also ideal for the culturally interested. In the area you can visit the city of Pula and here you can see, among other things, the beautiful amphitheatre, built in 81 AD under Emperor Titus. In ancient times it was used for gladiator fights, in the Middle Ages it was used for knight tournaments and today it gives concerts, opera and theatre performances. The area is also perfect if you want an active holiday with sailing opportunities as well as jogging, hiking, tennis and cycling.
The town of Opatija is also located on the Istrian peninsula, on the Kvarner Bay and is a beautiful seaside resort. Opatija is one of Croatia's oldest tourist destinations, but despite this it is still relatively unspoilt and has managed to retain its unique charm. Characteristic of the town are its green gardens and parks, the 12 km long promenade named Lungomare and the town's many fountains. The city is a popular tourist destination both in summer and winter due to its relatively stable temperatures.
You can also visit Croatia's third largest city, Rijeka, the country's main port city. The city has plenty to offer, such as shopping in the centre or in one of the two shopping centres, there are museums, theatres, restaurants, discos and much more.
If you're taking the kids on a summer holiday, you'll also want to visit the huge Aquapark Istralandia, covering almost 81,000 m2, where there's something for everyone who likes water. Here you'll find a myriad of waterslides, various rafting trips where the whole family can join in, and much more. You can also take the family to Glavani Park where you can climb around high up, try various slides, swing on beams or get wrapped up in a big rubber ball and roll down a hill.
Croatia is also home to countless beautiful islands that invite you to spend your summer holidays relaxing. You can visit the island of Rab, for example, where you can swim at Paradise Beach, the most famous of the island's beaches, as its 1.5 kilometres offer plenty of space. It is also shallow, making it ideal for families with children. You can also visit the beautiful island of Lošinj, where you will find many interesting towns and various waterfront activities for the whole family.
The climate in Croatia is pleasant all year round. The sunny country is not too hot in summer and winter is mild. It is therefore also possible to go on a winter holiday or a short break in spring or autumn. In addition to its beautiful sandy beaches and countless exciting islands, Croatia also has a unique natural environment that you can explore if you want an active holiday. Croatia is perfect for a family holiday.
