Skarrild

Skarrild is a small village with 330 inhabitants in West Jutland located in the middle of the magnificent nature, about 20 min. drive south of Herning. The village is surrounded by forests and heather hills, which together with Skjern Ådal offer many good nature experiences.

When you come from the north and drive down towards the river in Skarrild town, between the cemetery wall and the road, there is a small thatched house. This is the Skarrild-Karstoft Museum and Local Archive. The association's mission is to promote interest in the history of the parish, and to collect, record and store objects and records. The modest house is happy to open its doors if you would like to learn about Skarrild and the surrounding area. Inside the low but cosy rooms, one of them is decorated as a memorial to 7 Allied airmen who were shot down on 27 August 1944, and were buried in Skarrild cemetery. The museum also has a genealogical register of some 13,000 names of people from Skarrild and the surrounding area. There are many enquiries from people looking for information about their ancestors. There are enquiries from abroad as well as from Denmark.
