The old town of Güstrow is home to the old Renaissance castle, Güstrow Castle, which also graces the townscape. The impressive castle was built back in 1589 and was used as the residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg. Also visit the cathedral, which was built in Gothic style between 1226 and 1335. The cathedral is also on the "European Route of Brick Gothic" and so the famous work, "The Floating Angel, by the sculptor Ernst Barlach, can also be seen in the impressive brick cathedral.
