Wartburg is one of Germany's most famous and popular castles. Almost 1,000 years old, it towers majestically above Eisenach below. The castle has served as a fortified fortress, a magnificent residence and a hostel, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. It was here in the opulent adjoining buildings and chambers that Martin Luther himself found shelter and inspiration for the translation of the New Testament back in 1521.
