Theatinerkirche, is genuinely called ´Stiftskirche St. Kajetan´ and is located just opposite the Residenz. The beautiful Italian Baroque church was built between 1667 and 1675, but it took just a hundred years longer to complete the beautiful façade and the two towers, each 65 metres high. But those hundred years also had an impact on the façade, which was built in the Rococo style. Inside, the bright Baroque interior is a feast for the eyes and the contrast between the exterior and interior of the church must be experienced at close quarters.
The church itself was almost destroyed during the Allied bombardments, but was rebuilt again just after the war and was almost complete again in 1955.
