The castle originally dates from the 14th century, but has since been rebuilt several times. The Second World War was also hard on Poland, and Szczecin, and the castle was unfortunately completely destroyed but then rebuilt completely as it looked in the 16th century.
Today, the Ducal Castle's main purpose is cultural, with exhibitions, an opera and a cinema, as well as a restaurant, making it an ideal destination for a short break or a cheap weekend break in Szczecin.
There is also a museum where the Dukes' sarcophagi rest. In summer, several concerts are held in the castle courtyard.
