To protect themselves from the Allied bombardments during 2. World War, the German inhabitants built the underground bomb shelter. The bunker has a total area of 2,500 square metres spread over five underground levels with a total depth of 17 metres and protected by three-metre thick reinforced concrete walls. The longest corridor is about 100 long, which gives an idea of the size of the bunker.
After the war, the bunker was adapted for use in case of fallout from a nuclear attack. Today, several guided tours of the underground shelters are offered.
