In 1919 Sigrid Undset moved into her new home, which she called Bjerkbæk. At first it was just a small log house, but in 1924 she bought another log house, and together they make up the innetunet. Sigrid Undset decorated her home with a stylish taste and with personal valuables and books. The two works dealing with the Middle Ages, Kristine Lavrandsatter and Olav Audunsson, were both written by Sigrid Undset while she lived at Bjerkebæk.
During the summer, Sigrid Undset's home and beautiful garden can be visited, and in fact Bjerkebæk is also within walking distance of Lillehammer town centre. There is also a small café and a museum shop at the museum and there are guided tours several times a day, which is highly recommended because you will also get the best stories from the visit. Definitely one of the most beautiful sights around Lillehammer.
