The Catholic church was built in Romanesque style, early in the 9th century and is considered an important cultural heritage of Dalmatia.
The dome is 27 metres high and surrounded by an impressive gallery. The architectural style bears the first testimonies to Carolingian art and Byzantine temples. Many of the building materials come from the ancient Roman Forum, and inside the church's treasury are some incredibly well-preserved silver metalwork, as well as the reliquary of San Simeon.
The church's hard interior, on the other hand, provides excellent acoustics and is often used for concerts, and the International Festival of Renaissance Music also known as the Musical Nights with San Donato is also held here in the church.
