The Rialto Bridge is one of Venice's many beautiful sights and has a long history. The bridge was built as one of the first bridges from which Italians could cross the Grand Canal dry. Originally built in 1181, it has since been rebuilt several times. Today the stone bridge houses small shops across the bridge where Venetian carnival masks, brocade fabrics and souvenirs can be bought. Don't miss the beautiful views from the bridge over the Grand Canal either. To avoid the crowds, it's best to visit the bridge early in the morning or late at night.
