The national park covers approximately 185 square kilometres of the outermost archipelago from Hasseltangen in Grimstad to Lyngør at Tvedestrand. It is Sørland's first national park and is located in the Aust-Agder archipelago.
The largest island in Sørland is called Tomøy and lies just outside Arendal. On the far side of Tromøya is Spornes beach, which has its own shingle, and with views of the lighthouses Big and Little Spire, which can just be glimpsed in the distance.
At Tromøy there are also great opportunities for cycling in the beautiful terrain, which is also suitable for families with children. Take the ferry from Tyholmen in Arendal to Akilså, which is the northwestern part of Tromøy, it is free to bring the bikes, if they are rented city bikes in Arendal.
