Luxembourg is the land of bridges, with no less than 1271 bridges and footbridges. The Adolphe bridge stands out with its majestic double arch that stretches 150 meters above the 50 meter deep Pétrusse valley. Experience the view from the bridge that appears everywhere in Luxembourg in pictures, films and postcards.
The construction of the bridge started in the year 1900, and 200 workers were needed for the task, with the French engineer Paul Séjourné at the head of the challenging project. The bridge was built as a tribute to Grand Duke Adolphe, who reigned from 1890 to 1905, and the stones for the bridge came from local Luxembourg quarries. In 1903, the bridge was completed and opened to traffic, i.e. tram, car and train. In 2016, the bridge underwent an extensive renovation, the stones were cleaned and a new iron support system strengthened the original design.
You can combine a visit to the Adolphe bridge with a walk in Petrusse Park, which is particularly beautiful in spring when the magnolias are in bloom.
