Osnabrück is known as the city of bon vivants, where you can be pampered in wonderful gourmet restaurants such as La Vie. You can almost physically sense Osnabrück's importance and proud history (the negotiations to end the 30 Years War) as you stroll through the old town, so intense is the atmosphere. The beautiful Romanesque Cathedral of St Peter, the Baroque castle, the defensive fortifications and medieval half-timbered houses and, not least, the Senegalese town hall are top-class sights. The Felix-Nussbaum-Haus, the city's youngest and most spectacular museum, is also worth a visit for art lovers.
