Take a trip to the town of Neumünster, whose history as a monastery town on the Army Route dates back to 1130, and much of the old charm has been restored after the war, on the monastery island, along the River Schwale and in the town square with its pretty town houses, which also house cafés, beer halls and shops galore.
In Neumünster you can visit the bathing area, Das Bad am Stadtwald or go to the Tierpark, which is a zoo. The city also has a lovely promenade at the Einfelder See.
