Monastery of Saint Gabriel

Find the perfect family holiday at Risskov and head south to Prieure Saint Gabriel in the French part of Calvados, in the commune of Saint-Gabriel-Brécy between Caen and Bayeux, not far from the small market town of Creully. The monastery was founded in 1058 by the Abbot of Fécamp. The buildings were very well maintained until the 16th century but by the 18th century most had deteriorated. The choir is the only one to have survived the test of time, but the monastery itself is an excellent example of Romanesque architecture and is also a gem in the landscape.
