Behind a single wooden door, a whole world of old mine galleries is hidden in this very special mountain, located 6 km from the port of Gudvange in Vesland. This is where the Magic White Caves hide. In the underground passages of the mountain there are large quantities of anortosite, which in turn contains plagioclase, and it is this rock that lights up the old mines when the rainwater has washed it clean, giving it a very special white glow.
As you make your way through the mines, a walk of about 350 metres, you'll be greeted by living torches, coloured floodlights and Grieg's symphonies as background music - a very special experience.
The Magic White Caves can be visited from May to September in groups of 20 people or more. Refreshments are served in the main hall, where there are also reindeer skin benches. A great place to rest your feet while enjoying a cup of coffee and the exciting surroundings.
If you're in the area for a driving holiday, there's direct access to the Magic Quite Caves from the E16, which links Stalheim, Gudvangen and Flåm.
