Holsteinborg Castle was built by the Trolle family and completed in 1651. Since 1707 it has been owned by the Holstein family. The very beautiful main building is surrounded by a moat and around the castle there is a large park with a beautiful view over Storebælt and the Småland Sea as well as the small islands Glænø and Ormø.
H.C. Andersen also visited Holsteinborg, and it was actually a total of 35 visits, and was a place he liked very much. "It was here that the sun shone in my heart", he wrote, and his good friendship with Count Ludvig Holstein and Countess Joachimine Holstein lasted until his death. There are guided tours for groups, including Holsteinborg Church and H.C. If you are interested in history and castles, then it is an obvious choice to spend your summer holiday or a mini holiday in South Zealand and visit this beautiful castle.
