The cozy town of Gustavsberg has about 11,000 inhabitants and is located just 23 km from Stockholm on the island of Värmdö in the archipelago. The town is the centre of the municipality with its shops, cafés and porcelain museum. The porcelain factory, owned by a Swedish family, has been producing porcelain since the early 1800s. It is the only producer of bone china in the Nordic countries, the main component being bone ash. This means that this porcelain does not have the same cool white colour as the hard porcelain.
