The town was founded in 1170 and was first a fortress, later gaining town status in 1215. Today Fürstenfeld is a cosy town where water and thermal springs also play an important role. The many fountains in the town centre help to focus attention on the most important things in town. Fürstenfeld is considered the capital of thermal baths, located in the heart of the state of Styria, and surrounded by no less than six other towns that also offer healing springs. Fürstenfeld is also known for being the site of probably the largest outdoor swimming pool in Europe.
The town has also become renowned over time for its rich selection of shops and speciality boutiques, small cafés and patisseries, where there is always a buzz of people either meeting or on their way, and Fürstenfeld also has its own special festival culture, involving both the Springwater Festival and the Wine Festival.
The good tradition of holding markets is also practiced in great style, so enjoy a sunny day in Fürstenfeld and feel the town's pleasant atmosphere.
