Open 2nd December - 6th January - You can visit the Christmas market's own website with current information
Prague's many Christmas markets are among the more magical and impressive. In November and December, the city lights up and brings locals and tourists together in a true winter wonderland. The largest and most famous markets take place in Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square in the city centre. The Christmas market in Old Town Square has a stable where children can see sheep, goats and donkeys.
There's also a big scene depicting Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus and the three kings in a stable in Bethlehem, while around the stalls you can be served everything from delicious sausages, Hungarian flatbreads and local pancakes with a good Czech pilsner, honey wine or mulled wine in hand.
The most impressive sight is the huge Christmas tree in Old Town Square, which lights up every evening at 4.30pm accompanied by classical music in the background.
At Christmas time, Prague is also filled with schoolchildren and folk groups performing Christmas carols on a stage in Old Town Square dressed in traditional costumes, creating an absolutely fantastic atmosphere!
