Arezzo is a little gem of a medieval town, nestled on a 270-metre hill south of the Arno river valley. It's well worth a visit if you want to avoid the crowds of tourists in Florence and Siena. Although the town was badly hit during World War II, large parts of the old town survived and can be explored on a pleasant walk. Chianti wine is grown on the slopes around Arezzo and can be enjoyed in the town's restaurants. Arezzo is also known for its excellent gold jewellery and ceramics.
