Nature and parks in Sweden

The Stenshuvud nature reserve is a hill that slopes down into the sea. Walk the beautiful path up to the highest point for breathtaking views of the countryside and small towns - remember good walking shoes. The reserve, now fully protected, is particularly beautiful in spring when the fields are covered in yellow and white carpets of flowers. Many rare animal species in Sweden live in the nature reserve, including the tree frog.

Already in Carl von Linné's time, Stenshuvud was referred to as a landmark for seafarers.

The sandy beach of Knäbäckshusen is lovely in summer, but be careful not to swim too far out, as the water here is full of strong currents.

If you need a coffee after all that fresh air, we recommend a "fika" at Café Annorlunda.

Rent a rail bike in Strömnäsbruk and experience nature from a whole new angle from the forest train tracks. Bring your own picnic basket and take a lunch break along the way. Shorter tours are offered between Strömnäsbruk and Traryd. It is possible to cycle under your own power on the tracks or hop on a train, where you can concentrate on the scenery.

For an exciting day outdoors, visit Högbo Bruk. Here you can eat well, ski, mountain bike, inline skate, fish, play mini golf, swim or relax in a spa. There are also craft shops.

The Brösarps Backar nature reserve is not large, but still worth a visit.

In spring, first anemones and later poppies bloom. However, they are protected and must not be picked.

In summer, it's also beautiful to hike up to the heights and look out over the sea and apple orchards.

Don't miss a stroll along the beautiful 9.3 km long promenade that runs from Lindesnäs to "Skalbankarna". The road, which is completely car-free, won the "Beautiful Roads Award" in 2009. A special kilometre of the road is paved with wood and called the Uddevalla Bridge. When the bridge was inaugurated and the ribbon had to be cut, the world record for "ribbon cutting" was broken.

Enjoy nature in Stångehuvud Nature Reserve. The area has had nature reserve status since 1982 and is where the Bohus granite has its southernmost landward outlet. The granite, which was formed some 920 million years ago, became much sought after by quarrying companies in the second half of the 19th century. For almost 50 years, granite was quarried in large parts of the Stångehuvud area. Today we can walk over the untouched granite, created entirely by nature's own forces.
