Thingbæk Lime Mines
The famous Thingbæk Limestone Mines opened to visitors in 1935 and is probably one of Denmark's most distinctive underground museums. It is here that Anders Bundgaard exhibits his plaster figures. Put on some warm clothes and start your journey into the dark and chilly mine galleries and enjoy the majestic limestone caves that seem to appear all of a sudden.
At Thingbæk Møllegaard, lime has been mined for several generations, but it was not until 1926 that a mine was actually established, where lime was mined until 1960. However, the unprofitable production of lime had to give way to market forces.
