The rock carvings at Nämforsen

Take a trip to Näsåker, about 35 minutes' drive from Sollefteå, and visit the cave carvings at Nämforsen. The oldest petroglyphs are said to be more than 6,000 years old, and Nämforsen in the Ångermanlandsälven is home to one of Northern Europe's very largest petroglyph sites, with just around 2,600 carvings. At the museum you can see an exhibition of various artefacts from the excavations and learn more about the petroglyphs and their history. Parking is free and admission to the museum is free. There is also a café with outdoor seating during the summer season. So go on a wonderful outing suitable for families and couples alike - the museum also has a children's corner and offers guided tours in summer, as well as mobile-guided tours all year round. Nämforsen is a piece of Northern European cultural heritage that is definitely worth a visit during your driving holiday in or near Sollefteå.
