The heights in Himmelstalund

Just outside Norrköping, in a hilly area by Motala Ström, you can experience an exciting open-air area with numerous rock carvings from ancient times. In total, there are around 1,660 figures carved into the area's stones, spread over 57 small sites. The carvings are very diverse and depict animals, ships, weapons, hunting scenes and much more. The local Helleristnings Museum offers plenty of information about the special petroglyphs and the Bronze Age in their interesting permanent exhibitions and is an ideal destination for a mini break or summer holiday in southern Sweden.
