Nyhavn
Find a cheap weekend break in Copenhagen at Risskov and discover the idyllic harbour district of old Copenhagen dating back to the 1670s and excavated as an alternative to the pre-existing harbour. Nyhavn used to be known as a more seedy neighbourhood, but in the early 1980s the whole area was given a facelift and today Nyhavn is home to a wide range of delicious restaurants, bars and cafés, and there's nothing better than enjoying a cold drink on one of the many harbour terraces on a warm sunny day. The old, colourful and sometimes quirky houses along the quayside are beautiful and colourful, and there is always a festive and good atmosphere on the quayside. H.C. Andersen lived for five years in No. 20, where he wrote a number of his best-known works, including The Princess and the Lighthouse.
