Munkholmen

Two kilometres outside Trondheim, in the middle of Trondheimsfjorden, lies Munkholmen, which has a small but interesting history. The island was used to execute unfortunate Vikings in the Viking Age, and later a monastery was built on the island. In the 1600s, a fortress was built on Munkholmen, parts of which are still preserved. In the 18th century Munkholmen was converted into a prison, so there has certainly been a lively traffic back and forth to Munkholmen island.

Take the boat from Ravnkloa in Trondheim to Munkholmen.
