Heroes’ Gate
Hősök kapuja, or the Heroes’ Gate, is one of Kőszeg’s most significant landmarks, built in 1932 to commemorate two defining moments of Hungarian history. It honors the fallen soldiers of World War I while also marking the 400th anniversary of the town’s legendary defense against the Ottoman siege of 1532. Designed in a neo-baroque style, the gate forms the main entrance to Kőszeg’s old town and stands as a powerful symbol of courage and resilience. Inside, visitors will find a small exhibition about the city’s history and the stories behind the memorial.
