Eider barrage

On the outskirts of Tønning in south-western Schleswig lies the Ejder Dam, which is quite a sight. When it was inaugurated in 1973, its purpose was to protect vulnerable land from storm surges. This was not least because of some severe flooding following a storm surge in 1962. At the same time, the dam was also intended to help regulate the water level in the River Ejderen.
