It was in Dachau that the first concentration camp was built in 1933, after Hitler came to power. The camp quickly became a prototype for how future KZ camps would be both run and built. In 1941, the camp also became the final destination for many of the prisoners. Today Dachau houses an exhibition about the lives of the prisoners, from their arrival until they were either killed or escaped with their lives.
These are strong emotions and may not be suitable for the youngest. Take one of the guided tours and get all the details or try an audio guide and experience the first German KZ camp at your own pace.
