Aggertalsperre

Discover the impressive hydroelectric dam, Aggertalsperre, located just outside the centre of the town of Gummersbach, and fed by the rivers Agger, Genkel and Rengse. The dam is about 230 metres long and 45 metres high, and has a total storage capacity of as much as 20.5 million cubic metres. The Agger dam was built between 1927 and 1929 and has several functions, including water level regulation of the rivers, flood protection and at the same time energy production by hydropower.

The nearby hiking trail, 'Streifzug Energieweg', is an excellent route through the scenic landscapes of the 'Bergisches Land', starting at the dam, passing through a beautiful wooded area and ending up in the small charming village of Lieberhausen. Along the route, which is 11.9 km long, you will get a lot of different interesting and useful information about energy production. During a mini or active holiday in Gummersbach or the surrounding area, it is a must to visit the impressive Aggertalsperre and take a pleasant and educational walk along the 'Streifzug Energieweg'.
