Lake Constance Lake Constance is a popular destination, and not without reason. First of all, it's a great summer destination if you like sailing, windsurfing and swimming. But a trip around the lake, some 260 km, by bike is what attracts many enthusiasts. The cycle routes are some of the most beautiful in Europe and you'll have the chance to experience stunning scenery with snow-capped mountain peaks, charming towns and lots of exciting culture if you choose the Bodensee-Radweg cycle path.
In fact, people lived on the shores of the lake centuries before the birth of Christ. The beautiful southern climate is ideal for growing a wide variety of vegetables and wine, and it also leaves its mark on the landscape.
The lake is probably most famous because it borders three countries: Germany, Austria and Switzerland. There are many beautiful towns on the lake. One of them is Reichenau, known for its beautiful monastery, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Another lovely town is Mainau which is known for its beautiful weather and floral splendour.
Along the shores of the lake are several good places where you can swim in the water.
