Uwe Düne

Uwe Düne, or Uwe-Klit in Danish, is the highest point on the beautiful North Frisian island of Sylt at 52.5 metres. The dune is located in the extension of the steep coast Røde Klev, west of Kampen, on the west coast of the island. Since the 1920s, a wooden staircase with 109 steps has led visitors up to the viewing platform at the top of Uwe-Klit, from where they can enjoy a unique view. The Klitten is named after the civil servant Uwe Jens Lornsen, who was born in Keitum on Sylt and in the 1800s called for Schleswig and Holstein to secede from Denmark.
