Southern Norway is characterised by its beautiful coastline with many coastal towns peeking out over the desert sea. The stunning scenery also characterises the interior, where you can find Norwegian mountains, lakes and forests. Southern Norway is the perfect combination of nature holidays and relaxation by the coast.
Sørlandet offers activities and attractions for the whole family. Hiking here is a great experience whether you choose the mountain areas of Setesdal, Åmli, Sirdal or Åseral or you enjoy a hike along the coast. For the active nature lover, you can also go cycling, canoeing or fishing. The coast towards the Skagerrak invites you to go deep-sea fishing among the many islands and fjords.
Visit Norway's fifth largest city, Kristiansand, where you can stroll through the old town, take a pleasant boat trip to Lillesand or visit the former naval base on Odderøya. And don't spoil the young ones with a trip to the Kristiansand Zoo. The large water park combined with the cosy animal park is a great experience for the whole family.
Also visit the impressive Hardangervidda National Park or visit one of Norway's traditional stave churches, which is an impressive sight. Southern Norway is also full of cosy towns. Visit Norway's oldest town, Tønsberg, with its 13th-century fortifications, Henrik Ibsen's hometown of Grimstad with its beautiful waterside pedestrian streets, or Arendal with its old town of Tyholmen.
