Discover West Jutland and Tarm at your own pace and in your own car

Pack the car and go on adventures in West Jutland with the whole family. But where should you go among the many possibilities? One of the many small towns to visit in the area is Tarm. The town has a long tradition as a stopping place for traders and travellers, who for many centuries used the network of roads to transport goods along the west coast of Jutland. This tradition lives on at Tarm's famous flea market, which is definitely worth a visit so that children can experience a real Jutland flea market. The market days are very busy and definitely worth spending some time at, there should be something exciting to catch your interest, read more about the opening hours on the marketcalendar.dk.

Take the whole family to Hattemagerhuset and get a unique insight into what life was like in the old days. At Hattemagerhuset it is possible to take part in many of the chores that belonged in the 19th century. For example, when a house had to be kept warm and maintained, but also fed. Cooking over an open fire requires both skill and experience, try it yourself! Tarm can certainly offer artistic features too. Linda Stampe - Art & Design provides this with a modern selection of paintings in beautiful colours and her relationship paintings are captivating and definitely worth a look. There's also a selection of sculptures and gorgeous jewellery designs. Take a stroll in Tarm and meet the interesting and fun sculptures placed around the city streets. One of the favourites is definitely 'The Diving Lady' by sculptor Jens Galschiøtseret, which can be seen on Storegade, in the middle of the fountain. The 600kg sculpture quickly earned the flattering nickname 'the ass'. Also take the opportunity to enjoy a good lunch in one of the cosy restaurants in town.

For active families, a visit to the Tarn Sports Centre can be quite an entertaining experience. There's a swimming pool with a hot tub and a 60-metre waterslide, several seesaws, a baby pool and, of course, the hot tub. There are also badminton and tennis courts, and you can hire a racket. Grab a bite to eat in the café and take advantage of the free WiFi.

Western Jutland is known for its nature experiences, and Tarm is no exception. Tarm is surrounded by beautiful nature, so pack the car with the family's hiking boots and go on self-paced adventures on the vast Borris Sønderland or Lønborg Hede, where the very rare heather bell grows. Skjern Å can also offer a lot of experiences and activities for the whole family. Go on lovely hikes with wonderful routes or take the bike and try out the many cycling routes in the area. It is also possible to go canoeing and kayaking on large parts of the river and out to Ringkøbing Fjord. There is also a migratory ferry that connects trails with picnic areas and birdwatching towers. At the North pumping station there are good facilities with toilets, stories about pumps and posters about the development around Skjern Meadows.

On the west coast, not far from Tarm, there are several idyllic towns such as Hvide Sande and Søndervig, so bring your swimming gear. So pack your car and head off with the family on the perfect self-drive holiday to West Jutland, and be sure to stop by Tarm.
