Take a self-drive holiday to Herning, the centre of Central Jutland

There's nothing like holidaying in your own car, and there are many destinations to choose from. Pack your car and head off at your own pace with the whole family to Herning, which is known as the centre of Jutland and an obvious destination for the perfect self-drive holiday.

Herning is the fourth largest city in Central Jutland with a wide range of experiences and attractions. Herning is most often in the spotlight with the big fairs, wild concerts and of course 'Herning Blue Fox', the city's ice hockey team. But Herning can tempt you with so much more. Culture is at the forefront, even in public spaces, with several well-known works of art such as 'Seated Woman', 'The Bird' and many more, located both in and around Herning City. One of the big cultural draws is HEART or 'Herning Museum of Contemporary Art' which exhibits contemporary art of international class. Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelts Museum is another museum gem with over 4,000 works by the two painters associated with the Cobra group.

Herning is also a very family-friendly city, where experiences can be shared by all ages, so children can also have unique, fun and educational experiences. Start with a round of football golf at one of the city's two courses. A fun experience where the whole family can participate.

The Textile Museum has an exhibition featuring the sounds and smells of when the textile mill produced clothing fabrics back in the 1950s. Also visit the museum café, a great place to take a break if the kids are along. The nature playground in Præstbjerg is a great place to have fun and be active at the same time. There are also signposted routes with good holding areas where you can enjoy the view,

Take the car and the family at your own pace and visit Baboon City, Denmark's largest indoor amusement centre, with over 200 interactive rides. WOW Park is a different kind of amusement park, where you can crawl around the treetops, visit Max the troll or try to figure out where the exit to the forest maze is. There are plenty of challenges, fun games and space to have fun together.

And don't miss the flea market, 'Kirppu', where you're guaranteed not to leave empty-handed. As the icing on the cake, the whole family should pay a visit to Torvet 20 in Herning. It offers 450 sqm. Bang & Olufsen technology and design experiences.

If you have some time to spare, take a trip to the DGI House's Wellness Department, where you can enjoy the thermal baths and be pampered body and soul.

Life and happy days are not unfamiliar concepts in Herning City. 'Bryggeriet' offers a wide range of food and home-brewed beer. Shopping opportunities also lie like pearls on a string along Østergade and Bredgade, peppered with small shops as well as cafés and pubs, while Herning Centret is central Jutland's largest shopping centre. Herning is also known for its festive nightlife, where the Fox and Hounds, a Scottish pub and bar with live music, offers over 15 different kinds of beer. There's also live music at 'Fermaten', the regional venue that seats around 1,000 and hosts around 120 concerts a year. Read more about the concerts on the venue's own website.

From Herning it is also not far to a swim at the west coast, where there are several idyllic towns like Thorsminde, Søndervig and Hvidesande. But you can also air your swimsuit closer to Herning. Pack the car with towels, a parasol, a few sandwiches and enjoy the beautiful surroundings at Fuglsang or Holtbjerg lake with the whole family.

Last but not least, Herning is known for its large trade fair area, and especially 'Formland UPgraded', Scandinavia's largest trade fair for design and consumer art, is an international attraction. The 'Jyske Bank BOXEN' attracts big concert names like Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Justin Bieber. Read more about the programme on the BOXEN website.

So fill up the boot and head off to Herning at your own pace with the whole family. The holiday can easily be arranged as a self-drive holiday, and it's never far to Herning on four wheels.
