Beautiful nature and cultural and historical experiences on a self-drive holiday to West Jutland

From the roaring sea of the West Coast to the beautiful landscape of Ringkøbing Fjord to seal safaris on Fanoe and migratory birds over the Wadden Sea, West Jutland's fresh, and sometimes rugged nature, offers a wealth of exciting experiences. Here you can visit lovely beaches and beautiful nature areas, where every season has its charm. It is therefore not surprising that every year many people choose to take a self-drive holiday to this part of Denmark.

In the beautiful hilly landscape of the Limfjord you will find beautiful nature, quiet beaches and the old town of Lemvig. Lemvig Museum gives a good impression of the area's history and culture and is definitely worth a visit.

The beautiful west coast, with its wide sandy beaches, endless dunes and roaring sea, invites you to both exciting activities like windsurfing and long pleasant walks in the sunset. However, the roaring waves of the North Sea can be violent. So on a family holiday it's a good idea to choose one of the quieter, child-friendly, beaches along the fjords.

On a self-drive holiday to the West Coast, it is also obvious to visit Blåvandshuk Lighthouse, located at the westernmost point of Denmark. In the area around the lighthouse are many bunkers from the 2nd World War.  So you can experience a little piece of history at the same time. In fact, it is not only here that you can see the remains of bunkers. These can be seen in several places along the coast.

The cosy towns on the west coast also have many good restaurants and cafés to choose from, and it's a good idea to try one of the many local gastronomic restaurants serving fresh fish, for example in the fishing town of Hvide Sande or the old market town of Ringkøbing.

Ringkøbing is one of Denmark's oldest and most well-preserved market towns, and also one of the most beautiful, with many old red-brick houses and cobbled streets surrounded by the beautiful landscape of  Ringkøbing Fjord. Here you will find many cosy streets and shops.

Further south, you can also pass the port city of Esbjerg and the three beautiful Wadden Sea islands of Rømø, Fanø and Mandø. For the full experience, visit the Wadden Sea National Park, where the holiday can be tailored to give children a close-up experience of the Wadden Sea's unique nature and wildlife.

If you need a break from the many outdoor activities, the cities of Holstebro and Herning offer a wide range of cultural experiences, restaurants and shopping opportunities. If you're interested in art, Birk Centerpark near Herning is definitely worth a visit. Birk is an area with beautiful buildings, interesting art and parks. There are several museums that showcase great art exhibitions by both Danish and international artists.

Denmark's oldest town Ribe is another obvious destination on a family holiday. Here you can enjoy a stroll through the cosy streets and admire the impressive Cathedral. Don't forget to visit the Viking Centre, which tells the stories of the Vikings and their marketplace, and see the beautiful Viking houses.

On a self-drive holiday to Western Jutland you can combine exciting cultural experiences with wonderful nature activities. So pack the car and take the whole family on a wonderful holiday. It is easy to book hotel accommodation for the trip at Risskov.
