Bohuslän is characterised by its rugged but fascinating archipelago, which stretches along the Kattegat north of Gothenburg. The region offers many exciting towns such as Smögen, Strömstad, Lysekil and Marstrand, all of which are absolutely wonderful in both summer and winter. In the harbour towns, restaurants serve freshly caught seafood.
Bohuslän is full of maritime attractions. Try one of the many sightseeing tours in the scenic archipelago, where you might be lucky to see both seals and eagles in one of the many nature reserves. It is also possible to hire a boat and explore the many scenic islands yourself. Go for a nature walk in the evening sun and experience the glittering sea, the wind in your hair and the salty glow that makes the region so irresistible.
Inland there are also many attractions. For example, visit the burial mounds from the famous Bronze Age rock carvings in Tanum. If you are travelling with children, a visit to the zoo Nordic Ark located at Åbyfjord. During the summer months, the brewery in Smögen with restaurants and cosy bars is a must. Further south is Gothenburg's northernmost attraction.
