Backa carvings

If you're interested in Sweden's bygone days, you should definitely pay a visit to Backa! At Backa outside Brastad you will find one of Sweden's largest rock carvings. Backa was an important religious centre, especially in the Early Bronze Age. This has been deduced from the many carved stones and motifs found in the area. The most famous of all the carvings along this road is the so-called Shoemaker, a six foot human figure. The carvings are traces of the people who lived and worked here 3,000 years ago. 

Röe Farm

At Röe Gård you can enjoy good food and a quiet moment. You can visit the cosy shop where you will find ceramics, textiles, food, sweets, soap, nostalgic toys and much more.

There are also several nature experiences nearby. From the farm it is only 500 meters to the salt water of Åbyfjorden, and three different routes to walk. There are great opportunities for rock climbing and hiking, as well as a large playground and a medieval castle nearby.

Ark of the North

Take a trip to one of Bohuslän's most popular attractions. Nordens Ark is a zoo with more than 80 of the world's endangered animals. The beautiful scenery and the opportunity to see animals such as wolves, snow leopards and the great Amur tiger make the park an ideal place for an outing where the whole family can have fun and enjoy themselves.

Torreby Slot og Golf Klub

Grab the opportunity to play 18 holes on the beautiful course at Torreby Golf Club. Torreby Castle is Bohuslän's only castle and playing on this course is definitely an experience. After a round, you can enjoy a nice meal in the beautiful castle.

Smögenbryggan

The Smögen jetty is the main tourist attraction in Smögen, and is located along the south side of the town's old fishing harbour. It's about a kilometre long, and packed with shops, cafés, restaurants and outdoor eateries. At the end of the pier is the large Vallevik bathing area, with a diving tower, rock pool and a smaller, well-protected sandy beach perfect for children.

Smögen Whisky

Visit Smögen's own whisky producer! Since 2009, they have been producing genuine malt whisky from the west coast of Bohuslän, inspired by the sea. Open to visitors, you'll find Smögen Whisky just about a kilometer north of Smögen.

Lysekil

Visit Lysekil on a self-drive holiday to Sweden. The town is located in Bohuslän and is the main town in Lysekil municipality, Västra Götalands län in Sweden. Find cheap hotel accommodation and set off on a wonderful trip to scenic Västra Götalands län. The town is located on the Gullmarsfjorden and has been a seaside resort since the 1800s. Here you will find a lovely combination of nature, peace, shopping, nightlife and good restaurants. The beach is very popular, but the spa town's traditions attract people both in summer and winter. Lysekil offers many different activities and attractions. For example, you can take a walk in the cosy old town or visit the Sea House where you can find 40 different aquariums. House of the Sea

On a cheap summer holiday or a self-drive holiday on the Swedish south coast, a must is a visit to Havets Hus, a saltwater aquarium in Lysekil, where you can experience life in the North Sea and meet hundreds of fascinating species. Havets Hus is one of Bohuslän's most popular destinations with around 40 aquariums and plenty of exciting activities such as seal safaris and beach school.

Bohus Museum of Vicarage

The name Vikarvet refers to the area of Viken, which includes present-day Bohuslän and the area around Olsofjorden. The association was founded in 1915 and the museum displays artefacts from Bohuslän's coastal industries, such as the preservative, stone, fishing and maritime industries, as well as a number of fine model ships and ship paintings. In addition to the museum building, there are furnished fishermen's cottages with boathouses from the beginning of the 19th century. Discover the old open fishing boat, "Frifararen", which is on display in the area. The museum celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015.

Stångehuvud Nature Reserve

Enjoy nature in Stångehuvud Nature Reserve. The area has had nature reserve status since 1982 and is where the Bohus granite has its southernmost landward outlet. The granite, which was formed some 920 million years ago, became much sought after by quarrying companies in the second half of the 19th century. For almost 50 years, granite was quarried in large parts of the Stångehuvud area. Today we can walk over the untouched granite, created entirely by nature's own forces.

Uddevalla Golf Klub

If you like to play golf, then you should go try out Uddevalla Golfklub's course. Here you will find 18 holes located in the beautiful nature near the Swedish west coast.

Sandö

Sandö is part of a nature reserve in Smögen. Here you can swim on the beautiful natural sandy beach, hike, jog, fish or explore the rich birdlife. Another popular attraction is the Hällmark landscape with its inspiring sculptures. From here you also have a great view of the area and the beautiful landscape.

Smögens Harbour

The port of Smögen began to be used as early as the 16th century, and its importance grew as the years went by. During the last herring period (1877-1905), the port developed into a very important centre for fishing exports, with extensive trade in Europe. Warehouses and salt works sprang up at the bridges and many of them still stand today. After this period, the port increasingly developed into a bathing area and guest harbour. Today, the port of Smögen has the status of one of the most popular ports in the Nordic region. It is also home to one of Sweden's few fish auctions, which is well worth a visit. Enjoy the delights of the sea at the nearby restaurants.

Hållö

On a car holiday in the southwest of Sweden in summer, you can take a boat trip from Smögen to Hållö. The boat leaves the harbour every half hour. Hållö is a nature reserve with beautiful granite cliffs that are perfect for a beach holiday or a nature holiday. Also visit Hållö Lighthouse, where many dramatic events took place during wartime. For example, a Swedish cargo ship was hijacked by the Germans in the autumn of 1939.

Käringön, Smögen & Fjällbacka

Sweden has a lot to offer and Bohuslän in particular has a unique nature and a magnificent archipelago that is not difficult to be captivated by. Find a cheap weekend break for the whole family and discover the archipelago with its bare granite cliffs and small fishing villages that line the coast like pearls on a string. Visit Käringön in the far North Sea, for example. The island is only accessible by ferry as it is completely car-free.
