Founded by a local couple, the hotel began with the renovation of a single house, evolving into Norway's smallest hotel. It has since expanded, today the hotel consists of several wooden houses scattered in the town.

The hotel's restaurant, "Tollboden 1865," offers a seasonal menu focused on quality, echoing the flavours of the coastal region and complementing the overall experience of the hotel.

The rooms in the historic building where Risskov guests are accomodated were completely renovated in 2023. They are bright and spacious with views of the sea and beautiful Risør harbour.
