The family-run Austbø Hotell is located in the Norwegian
village of Rauland, just southeast of Hardangervidda National Park, and offers
base for a stay with plenty of exciting opportunities and activities
whatever the season.
About the hotel
This cosy and family-friendly hotel is the former 'Camp
Vierli', and offers a relaxed and informal atmosphere with
personal service. Here you will find a perfect base for a holiday with endless possibilities, both in summer and winter.
In summer, the stunning surrounding nature invites you to
hiking and cycling, and just 200 metres from the hotel you will also find a large
sandy beach. The hotel offers canoes and SUP paddleboards for hire. You can also find several museums and attractions within a short distance, such as
Vemork (Norwegian Industrial Workers' Museum), West Telemark Museum and Eidsborg
Stave Church. You can also relax in the hotel's lovely outdoor
area, where there are sofa groups, a table tennis table and
sun loungers.
In winter you can enjoy the hotel's excellent location
between two ski centres - it's only about 5 km to both, and here you'll find unique slopes and other fun winter activities. The area is perfect for cross-country skiing, the nearest trails start right next to the hotel and you can rent skis at the hotel.
Inside the hotel you will find a TV lounge with Playstation and
games, and several cosy seating areas, perfect for relaxing between
adventures.

Very pleased with our stay at Austbø Hotel. The food was very good, and it was a bonus that we could make packed lunches to take with us on our outings. The hotel has a warm and pleasant atmosphere, with cosy fireside comfort at breakfast and dinner. This is luxury. The hotel is beautifully situated with lovely views over Lake Tansvatn, where we got to see a heron. We spotted some posts, so we also went post hunting. We saw areas we would not otherwise have experienced. There is so much to see and do nearby, so there is a strong possibility that we will come here again. We enjoyed our stay at Austbø Hotel and the charm we feel the place has.

Four satisfied adults with three overnight stays at Austbø Hotel in a scenic area in brilliant sunshine. Good rooms, cleaning, food, and friendly staff. A great base for our holiday experiences to the Norwegian Industrial Worker Museum at Vemork, the Gaustabanen cable car to Telemark's highest mountain Gaustatoppen, the hotel's canoe rental in beautiful Tansvatn, and a relaxing day at the "southern beach" Fagersand by Lognvikvatnet. Austbø is a gem in the beautiful nature surrounding Hardangervidda. Cosy, slightly smaller family-run mountain hotel with a fantastic view over Lake Møss from our room and from the really beautiful wooden terrace. The hotel is incredibly beautiful, I've never woken up to such views outside the window before.
Very friendly staff and very good food.
The only small downside is the toilet in the room. It was very small and had a bathtub to step into when you wanted to shower. Otherwise, the room was good.

We stayed at Austbø Hotel in June 2026 and had 3 overnight stays! The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful! Both the breakfast and dinners were very good and the place itself has a great location with a wonderful view! Coffee, tea, and chocolate were available all day! I would highly recommend this place and we would love to return here!
