Go on a driving holiday to Vendsyssel and spend your days in the cosy Dronninglund.
The small town of Dronninglund is named after Queen Charlotte Amalie, who was given the manor of Dronninglund Castle in 1690.
Although small, the city has a lot to offer for individuals, couples and families. There's plenty to choose from when it comes to places to visit and where to stay in the area, so why not take a trip to the east of Vendsyssel and see what the town has to offer.
Take a trip to Dronninglund Art Centre, where art, nature and the building form a complete experience. Built in 1977, the centre is a popular venue for exhibiting various forms of art. The buildings attract attention because of the special gables with light incidence, and this gives some very special illuminations. It is also possible to enjoy a light lunch in the centre's own cafe, as well as coffee and bread, and of course the gallery shop, which has a wide range of crafts, made mainly by local artists.
Take a trip to Dronninglund Nature Park, or "The Green Oasis" as it is also called. It is a beautiful nature area that offers many different experiences in one place. There are many beautiful marked hiking trails to choose from, and if you have your dog with you, there is a dog forest where it can romp around. For children and young at heart, there is the Jungle Trail, or as it is also known, the Adventure Trail, where you can try your hand at various obstacles and sculptures. If you are more into sports, you can play a tournament on the mini golf course, have a game of tennis, petanque or beach volleyball.
How about a trip to North Jutland's highest point, Knøsen, located in Dronninglund Storskov? A few metres from Knøsen there is a lovely viewpoint with a bench where you can enjoy the magnificent view over Dronninglund Storskov and Jyske Ås. There are many memories and stories associated with Storskoven, including the bewitched hill where the water runs uphill. Bring a bottle of water and pour it out on the road, and there you will experience the unexplainable.
Dronninglund is a good starting point in Vendsyssel and North Jutland in general, where it is possible to go on shopping trips in cities such as Aalborg and Frederikshavn, but also go to the more touristy towns such as Skagen, Saltum and Blokhus. You can also take a trip to Hirtshals and experience the amazing Nordsø Oceanarium, which is Northern Europe's largest aquarium.
If you go on a mini holiday to Dronninglund in the summer months, there will be plenty of opportunity to experience the various markets, with Hjallerup and Brønderslev market as the two major flea markets. So if you're into hawking, these two markets are definitely worth a visit.
So pack your car and head to one of North Jutland's little gems. Enjoy a cosy mini break or weekend with lots of experiences for the whole family.
