The magnificent scenery of Bornholm is a sight in itself. The island offers dense forests and green fields, dramatic rock formations and beautiful white sandy beaches. Stop by one of Bornholm's most famous beaches, Dueodde Strand, where you can build castles in the fine sand and swim in the clear water. Or take a trip into the countryside and enjoy a few pleasant hours in nature. There is a wide range of outdoor activities and nature experiences for the whole family. You can go mountain biking, kayaking or running in the beautiful surroundings.
Bornholm is also a great place for a bike ride, so bring your bike. On a self-drive holiday to Bornholm, it's a good idea to visit the idyllic town of Svaneke, which a few years ago was voted Denmark's most beautiful market town. Here you can stroll through the cosy streets and admire the beautiful half-timbered houses and farms. Stop by the old sweets factory on the square. Here you can still see how the different sweets are made.
On your trip around the island you can visit the many interesting Bornholm sights such as the Round Churches. There are a total of 4 round churches on the island. The beautiful round churches are built as combined churches and defence works and they each have their own special character. If you are interested in Danish history, Hammershus Castle ruin near Allinge is also worth a visit. It is the largest castle ruin in Northern Europe. At the Hammerhus Visitor Centre, you can see an exhibition about Hammershus and get a good insight into the history of the ruins.
There are also many galleries and museums where you can discover the history of the island. Bornholm Museum in the port town of Rønne houses collections on Bornholm's history, while the Oluf Høst Museum in Gudhjem showcases his paintings. Most museums are very child-friendly, so kids can get up close to art - and maybe find inspiration for a new drawing!
