The large province of Veneto includes the eastern shore of Lake Garda to the west and part of the Alps to the north. Venice, the capital of the region, is an ideal destination for a city break, but you can also visit other cities such as Verona, a gem of an Italian city. Here you will find the balcony of Romeo and Juliet and the famous Roman Amphitheatre.
Venice, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is obviously worth a visit when you're in this area. Piazza San Marco's churches, canals, Palazzo Ducale and gondolas are all worth seeing, and a gondola ride in particular is a great way to experience the city from a different angle.
In Venice, there are plenty of different restaurants and cafés that exude a wonderful, genuine Italian atmosphere. Try bigoli (pasta) in an anchovy sauce or castraure (small artichokes), considered to be the area's specialities. Outside the town is Lido di Jesolo, an area of stunningly beautiful beaches.
Veneto is therefore perfect for beach holidays, weekend breaks, summer holidays and family holidays.
